We would never guess that our favorite stars on the screen to be horribly difficult people to be around. Some might see Jessica Alba on the screen and think that she’s the absolute image of perfection or see Jim Carrey and think that it’d be fun to have a friend like him. Be careful what you wish for. Looks and on screens impressions can be deceiving, especially when we’re talking about professional actors. Today we’re going to tell you about the actors that nobody wants to work with. The ones that are too out there, too far gone or just complete jerks.
Doing movies like The French Connection and Unforgiven left us all with the notion that Gene Hackman is usually always playing tough guys, apparently it’s no act. He’s a pretty tough guy in real life. He is notorious for causing trouble on movie sets. During the filming of The Royal Tenenbaums, he cursed the director and gave the screenwriters several stern talks. Shooting off the mouth is nothing new for this actor. It is antics like these that left other actors afraid to work with him. Luckily for them, the 8-year-old is now retired.
William Shatner will forever be associated with Jame Kirk from Star Trek. It’s pretty much who he is and anything he does unrelated pretty much goes unnoticed. That said, he was apparently a nightmare to work with. He’d walk around the set like he owned the place and curse up a storm. It was stated by many of his costars that he would ruin everything for everyone with his bad attitude.
Marlon Brando is known around for being one of the greatest actors to ever grace the screen and stage. With movies like On The Waterfront, A Streetcar Named Desire and The Godfather under your belt, it’s easy to be considered as such. Yet, the actor was terrible to work with by the end of his career. He stopped caring. He’d show up drunk, wouldn’t be social with the other actors, would pay no mind to lines and would take no direction from producers or directors. See Apocalypse Now for the ultimate example of this.
Mike Myers had two major hits that he’ll always be associated with. Those are Wayne’s World and Austin Powers. The problem for Mike Myers is that everything needs to be perfect for him. He’s a perfectionist. Everything to do with the movie has to be approved by him. It’s horrible. Everyone knows he’s difficult and hard to work with, even he does. That’s is probably why he’s been sticking to voice acting through the years.
Where to even start when it comes to Mel Gibson. Here is an actor who is full of talent when it comes to both acting and directing. He’s great when it comes to these two things, but a near horrible person in every other aspect. He has been on several racist and anti-semitic rants, is a total diva on set and is known for having a temper that strikes fear into the hearts of the people who work with him. Talk about a bad time.
Christian Bale proved himself time and time again that he is one of the most talented actors of our current era. Sadly he has so temper issues. We learned about this when a audio was released of him losing it on the set of Terminator Salvation. He went on a long and vile rant at one of the light operators who was on the scene during filming. You could literally hear the lights operator shaking.
No doubt one of the most lovable on screen and most hated on set is Chevy Chase. He has been deemed as nearly impossible to work with. It explains why his career has nearly completely faded. He got his start on Saturday Night Live and that’s where a lot of his problems started. He got into a fish fight will Bill Murray, he apparently slapped Cheri Oteri during rehearsals and sent Will Ferrell complaining to producers. He has since been banned from ever appearing on the show.
Paltrow was a huge deal during the 1990’s and early 2000’s, although now she seems to be losing her roles and mind. One reason could be due to her being a complete bore of the set. She doesn’t really socialize with other actors. During Iron Man 2, she wouldn’t speak to Scarlett Johansson. She wasn’t rude to her. But just wouldn’t speak to her. She also did a great job of making this awkward for everyone on set.
The wasn’t a funnier man alive back in the 1990’s. Jim Carrey stole our hearts with movies like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Liar Liar, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber and The Truman Show. His character was alway lovable and funny on screen, yet on set if was a complete different issue. He was a complete loose cannon, known for causing scenes and melting down. Today it makes a lot of directors weary about putting him in their movies.
Keanu Reeves first came into our lives back in the 1980’s with hit films like River’s Edge and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. He was an instant hit. He went on to become of the biggest stars of the 1990’s and early 2000’s, but then something happened. Tragedy struck his life and he left the acting game for awhile. Besides of the John Wick series he hasn’t acted much. Maybe it has something to do with his depressive stance on life or due to the fact that not many movies want to hand starring roles to people over fifty.
